Sea Buckthorn with Indigo and Borage Flowers
I've already fawned over the sea buckthorn berry, but it really is incredible and so sweet-smelling, like candy.
Sea Buckthorn - The linolic acid found in sea buckthorn oil plays a significant role in skin, found to strengthen the lipid barrier of the epidermis in dry skin and is protecting against transepidermal water loss. One study found the fatty acids in the oil have regenerative properties on normal skin cells. But, there are many studies, so see for yourself. The amazing inflammatory effects of sea buckthorn alone are amazing - Not to mention, the beautiful golden colour!
I learned a lot about sea buckthorn when visiting Darryl at his sea buckthorn farm @montgomeryshireorchards. He taught me that sea buckthorn trees are dioecious, with male and female trees being separate - What's amazing is they pollinate themselves through the wind. The male 'cones' open-up and the wind carries the pollen to the female tree. He had many.
For the bottom of the soap, indigo and butterfly pea flower powder were used. It's unintentionally green, but it's quite nice..like a golden sunrise over a hillside. Indigo is a famous material in India, made from plants, and being used in fabric, to a natural medicine. The use of indigo is still seen today. The indigo used in this soap is skin safe/ made for skin, natural and medicinal. The top of the soap is of course sea buckthorn, but with bergamot and chamomile essential oils added. To decorate the soap, I used purplely-blue borage flowers.
The result is a fresh and sweet smelling soap.
Sea buckthorn, my new love.❤
I used saponified oils of sea buckthorn, olive, coconut and castor oils, shea butter, indigo and butterfly pea flower, as well as essential oils of chamomile and bergamot. And sea salt.
😊
